First Edition, 2004. Winners and Finalist Essays

Two-hundred and forty-nine works were presented at the first edition of the International Essay Competition “Against the Mainstream”; the authors came from 25 different countries. The Jury decided to award four of the submissions:

  • “Revolution of the Future”, by Jesus Arboleya (Cuba)
  • Hegemony and Spaces for Resistance”, by Ulrich Brand (Germany)
  • “Time of Wars and Emancipation in the Petroleum Lands”, by Claudia Korol (Argentina)
  • “Socio-genesis of Media Capital through Music”, by Marcos Schneider (Brazil)

As specified, the four winners received the same classification, since the Jury did not see the need to establish a hierarchy among them, given their respective importance and their qualities.
